The Jim Aspiotis Memorial Award
The passing of Jim Aspiotis in February of 2021 has reverberated across the criminal justice system. His loss has been devastating to his family and friends. The ONGIA board and broader ONGIA community have felt this keenly. Indeed, ONGIA has never known a minute where Jim was not a tireless board member. He was an inspirational leader and president for many years.
His motto of “LEARN, SHARE AND STAY SAFE” is the bedrock upon which ONGIA is built.
With the support of his family, the Jim Aspiotis Memorial Award is being established to recognize outstanding work.
This can be either for a lifetime of accomplishments or in recognition of an exceptional achievement.
This Award is aimed at individuals like Jim Aspiotis, who have demonstrated outstanding professionalism and a profound dedication to the safety of their community and all its members.

A Legacy of Leadership and Safety Nominated for the Jim Aspiotis Memorial Award, Sergeant Justin Parry has served the Winnipeg Police Service with distinction for nearly two decades. His career is defined by an unwavering commitment to the motto "LEARN, SHARE AND STAY SAFE," and a dedication to advancing the integrity of law enforcement.
Currently serving as Sergeant of the Secure Operations Unit, Justin oversees critical, high-stakes functions including intelligence operations, counter-terrorism, and witness protection. Beyond his operational command, he is a nationally recognized expert in organized crime. As Manager of the Gang Expert Program, he has enhanced public safety across Canada by training numerous officers and partner agencies, developing specialized curricula, and presenting at national conferences.
Justin’s impact extends to the courtroom, where he serves as an expert witness in high-profile cases, providing authoritative testimony on risk assessment and informant management. His comprehensive approach—bridging enforcement, judicial expertise, and community engagement—makes him an outstanding exemplar of professionalism and ethical policing.

ONGIA is seeking nominations for the 2025 Jim Aspiotis Memorial Award.
The winner will be invited to attend the 2025 training conference in Kingston (at no cost), where the winner will be presented with the award.

Rules for Nominations

This Award is aimed at individuals like Jim Aspiotis, who have demonstrated outstanding professionalism and a profound dedication to the safety of their community and all its members.
Typed nomination letter with a narrative that thoroughly describes the nominee's work and how they impacted their community.
All nominations must be received no later than October 1st, 2025.
Nominations must be emailed to the President using the link here.
The ONGIA Board will evaluate the nominations and select the winner.
The Winner will be invited to the conference to accept the award during the week.
