Project Grant

"The Ontario Gang Investigators Association is pleased to present Project GRANT (Gang Reduction After Neighbourhood Training). Project GRANT is partially funded by the Government of Canada through the National Crime Prevention Strategy.

ONGIA has been working diligently to educate communities and law enforcement personnel about gangs. Project GRANT. will strive to reduce gang activity through three main components:

1.    NEIGHBOURHOOD TRAINING

The core element of Project GRANT focuses on the main objectives of information sharing with community members, residents and law enforcement practitioners. Project GRANT will reinforce one of the most important primary intervention factors, information sharing, which is crucial to eliminating the problem of gangs.

2.    COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

This component of the project will strive to utilize ONGIA?s vast membership base to engage community members. It will address the needs of youth-at-risk of joining gangs and encourage mentoring, support and development. A comprehensive curriculum will be administered to all participants.

3.    GANG PUBLICATIONS AND TRAINING MATERIALS

With the assistance of advisors from the gang expert community and networks gang information materials and publications will be created and be made available for distribution to educators, community members, law enforcement and whoever has contact with youth or has an interest in the topic.

ONGIA is currently seeking input and assistance from our membership to become involved with this great endeavour.
