GANG EDUCATION, PREVENTION, INTERVENTION, SUPPRESSION

  WELCOME
Welcome to ONGIA's membership website. The primary function of this website is to provide an information sharing forum on the topic of criminal street gangs for our 600+ membership that is made up of sworn members of the law enforcement community. In 2006 ONGIA has undertaken to reach out to the community with information on the prevention of gangs through its interactive 'Voices of Youth' website www.NoToGangs.org

International Support For ONGIA
ONGIA is proud of its Canadian grassroots beginnings, and the extensive network of individuals and organizations from the USA and Internationally who have mentored us and supported our efforts of prevention, intervention and suppression of criminal street gangs in Canada.  The following are endorsements of the work of ONGIA from two well respected, and internationally recognized individuals who have been leaders in their communities on the issue of gangs.

"Just want to take time to thank ONGIA/COYO for the continued love and support and for having me in Waterloo/Kitchener and at the Blue Line Trade show in April 2008. You guys are first class and are at the forefront in combatting gang activity in Canada. Thank you for fighting the good fight and I look forward to continued relations with my brothers and sisters from across the border. Much love."
Ron "Cook" Barrett
Capital Region NY Gang Prevention Specialist

"I wanted to thank your organization for a well planned and executed conference. I really enjoyed my stay and am looking forward to a long lasting relationship. If there is anything I can do for your organization feel free to contact me. Thanks again, stay safe, and continue doing what you do."
Bill Sheridan (2007 ONGIA Conference Speaker from Rikers Island, New York Gang Unit)

Ontario School Resource Officer Training Manual
ONGIA is honoured to have authored the 'Youth Gangs'
section of the 2007 OSRO Training Manual

(for copies of the training manual, and information on a summer 2008 School Resource Officer training course at OPC, visit the Ontario Police College website at
http://www.opconline.ca/ )

"The School Resource Officer Program is an effective policing tool in safeguarding Ontario's Youth, addressing issues of Prevention, Intervention and Enforcement of Youth crime and victimization.  In September 2006 a working group consisting of Federal, Provincial and Municipal Police Service and Ministry representatives formed to build resources and skills training for officers working with youth. In October 2007 the Ontario School Resource Officer Manual was distributed to all Police Services by the Ontario Police College. The manual consists of 17 modules addressing specific policing issues relating to youth and a supporting resource guide. The modules were developed by civilian and policing experts across Ontario.  The manual was reviewed and is supported by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police Youth Committee. The working group continues to maintain and continue to develop education resources and build the credibility and effectiveness of School Resource Officers. Training is being planned for the summer of 2008. By providing officers working with youth the resources, education and training Ontario Police Services are able to realize the best results in their efforts to build healthy youth, healthy communities."
